How we check prices and plans

Version 1.0. This page says where every number on AppForeman comes from.

Prices

  1. Source: the vendor's own pricing page, or its own help center when the pricing page leaves something out. Nothing else. Review sites, marketplaces and app-store purchase lists are not sources: they are often out of date, and an app store lists every product a developer ever created, not what it sells today.
  2. Location: we read from a US connection. Several vendors show different prices and currencies by country, so a price read from abroad can be wrong for a US buyer.
  3. Date: every price table carries the date we read it, in US Eastern time.
  4. Evidence: we keep the page text and a full-page screenshot of every read. Where a page shows a screenshot, the caption gives the date and the source page.
  5. Billing terms spelled out: many tools show a lower price for annual billing, or a first-year promotion. We show each price with its billing term, never just the smallest number.

Crew cost

For a crew of 1, 3, 5 and 10 people we take the cheapest plan the vendor allows for that many users, plus any per-user fee the vendor states, on monthly billing and on annual billing. A cheaper plan may lack features you need; each pricing page lists what the plans include in the vendor's words.

Card fees

Card, tap-to-pay and bank (ACH) rates come from the vendor's own payments page. We turn the stated rate into dollars for a $150, $500 and $2,000 invoice. Where a vendor says rates "start at" a figure, we say so; your own rate may differ.

Changes

We re-read the tracked pages regularly. When a price, plan or limit changes, we update the page, keep the old figure in its change log and note the date.

Mistakes

If you spot a wrong number, tell us which page and what you saw. We re-read the vendor's page and correct it, with a note.
