Three things that change the rate

  • How the card reaches Housecall Pro. The same Visa costs 2.59% tapped on a reader, 2.99% paid online from an invoice and 3.49% typed in by your office or charged on file. Recurring work billed to a saved card pays the highest standard rate.
  • The card itself. American Express and commercial, corporate or business cards are 3.49% however they're paid. A business customer paying online with a company card pays 3.49%, not 2.99%.
  • Getting paid today. Instapay adds 1% to card and eligible bank payments. A $500 online card payment paid out instantly costs $19.95 instead of $14.95.

Other payment costs Housecall Pro lists

  • Tap to Pay on Mobile: $5 a month for each phone that takes a Tap to Pay payment in the billing cycle, on top of the 2.59% (help center, Getting Started with Tap to Pay on Mobile, Jan 21, 2026). Three techs using it in a month: $15.
  • ACH: the ACH FAQ (Jan 21, 2026) gives "a standard 1% fee" and adds that "the fee may vary based on your specific plan."
  • Card readers: sold separately in the account (My Money, then Card Reader); the article gives no price.
  • Surcharging: Housecall Pro lets you pass a surcharge of up to 3% on credit cards (not debit) to customers where state rules allow. Its FAQ lists surcharging as not available in Connecticut, Maine, Massachusetts and New York, and a 2% cap in Oklahoma. Housecall Pro charges 0.50% on each surcharged credit card transaction (Credit Card Surcharging FAQ, Sep 25, 2026).

What card fees add to a month

Past about $6,300 a month in online card payments, the fees cost more than the Essentials plan itself. If customers pay online from invoices at 2.99%:
